Recurring White Form Against Black

—After Sophie Taeuber-Arp

They look like small boats growing
unexpectedly larger
or white ducklings
or paper hats that might float away
an inexact symmetry
none of them perfect

in her own chair
still we are moving
toward something
isn’t that what stillness is?
breath before the world
begins again
love repeating itself
against a window
your reflection
in my own
